27. Salzburg
Once again, for some reason that I can`t seem to rectify, a lot of these pictures are coming out sideways... so, get ready to tilt your head.
Okay, so Vienna was beautiful... but I LOVE Salzburg. It`s got a wholy different feel, a different charm to it. Of course, it does have the distintion of being the first city where I`ve seen a man literally thrown out of a bar. I had thought that was just a turn of phrase. I was just walking along the street and he came flying out of the door in front of me. The bartender followed him out a few moments later with a chair and a cloth for his head (he was bleeding rather profusely from a head wound).
But other than that odd experience, it`s been a lovely time. It`s been a wanderers heaven, really. Of course, it doesn`t hurt that my first day of wandering took me to a park that I immedietely recognized from the Sound of Music! That was pretty cool.
Do you recognize it? It`s from the "Do Re Mi" song.

I, of course, went on the Sound of Music Tour... being the big nerd that I am!
This is the house that was used for the back view of the Von Trappe family home... where the kids were in the boat and fell in the water... We can`t go any closer because it`s some sort of economics school now. The gazebo used to be here, but they moved it because of all the tourists.

Here, of course, is the gazebo... It`s smaller than I thought it would be, but then the indoor scenes were all filmed in a studio in Hollywood. You can`t go into the gazebo because too many people were injured trying to dance from bench to bench like in the movie.

And here is where the children were hanging from trees while dressed in drapes.

And here is the church where the wedding was filmed, I took some pictures inside, but as I didn`t want to use my flash, none of them really turned out.
Just some pictures of some mountain views seen on the tour.

I wandered up to the fortress that towers over the city of Salzburg.
This is the fortress as viewed from the Old City.

And here are some views from the fortress of the city of Salzburg.

And here`s a big tree inside the fortress that I just liked for some reason.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the weather when I got here was not ideal, at least not for my feet. I didn`t bring boots, so my first two days my feet were soaked. But the snow was beautiful! The park from the Sound of Music had a host of statues in it that were blanketed in snow and I couldn`t help but think of the White Witch`s castle from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

It was a late snow, as was obvious from the flowers that had been planted, and that were doing their best to peek up through the snow. Made me feel a bit better about my lack of appropriate footwear. Also, made me want to play around with my camera settings, so please indulge my attempts and... um... fancy photography.

And just some pictures wandering around the old city of Salzburg.

Anyway, tomorrow I leave for Venice. Here“s hoping I love the city as much as I did last time!
Love you!
